Catalyst are essential materials in the industrial production. Approximately 60% of all consumer and industrial products including fertilizer, batteries, plastics, and pharmaceuticals amongst others are made up of catalyst. They are highly preferred in chemical processes that help in accelerating the rate of the chemical process but do not alter the final product. Catalyst increase output and improves process efficiency, and lower cost. Therefore, strong emphasis is given for expansion of catalyst with higher activity, reduce environmental impact and increase longevity. Further, increase in the disposable income coupled with increased investment in advancement of technology is also likely to drive the demand for Catalyst Fertilizers in South America market. Thus, the rising focus on research and development and innovation activities is expected to create a significant demand for catalyst fertilizers in the coming years, which is further anticipated to drive the South America catalyst fertilizers market.
The catalyst fertilizers market in South America is expected to grow from US$ 185.12 million in 2019 to US$ 221.44 million by 2027; it is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 2.4% from 2020 to 2027. In the recent past, various research studies had been conducted on various properties and production process of catalyst fertilizers applied to various crops, fruits, and vegetables. A research study was published by the American Chemical Society in October 2017, on sustainable ammonia and advanced symbiotic fertilizer production using catalytic multi-reaction-zone reactors with non-thermal plasma & simultaneous reactive separation. In this study, the theoretical bases of a novel intensified catalytic multi-reaction-zone reactor (M-RZR) system has been described. The M-RZR, along with two reaction zones (RZ-1 and RZ-2), was utilized for ammonia synthesis. In the catalytic non-thermal plasma reaction zone (such as RZ-1), ammonia was synthesized, and further, it was immediately sequestrated through a highly porous polymeric solid acid absorbent mainly in the ammonia neutralization reaction zone (RZ-2). The solid acid was basically a sulfonated cross-linked porous polystyrene foam, mainly known as polyHIPE polymer. The s-PHP & its neutralized version (sn-PHP) were developed as an advanced symbiotic fertilizer (or synthetic root system) for agro-process intensification for the enhancement (50–300%) of crop yield along with nitrogen fixation, especially underwater and nutrient stress. This method is not only fruitful for the direct conversion of syngas to ammonium carbonate & urea fertilizers but also for obtaining anhydrous ammonia for fuel applications. This is bolstering the growth of the catalyst fertilizers market.
Brazil has the highest number of COVID-19 cases, followed by Ecuador, Chile, Peru, and Argentina, among others. The government of South America has taken an array of actions to protect their citizens and contain COVID-19’s spread. It is anticipated that South America will face lower export revenues, both from the drop in commodity prices and reduction in export volumes, especially to China, Europe, and the United States, which are important trade partners. Containment measures in several countries of South America will reduce economic activity in the manufacturing sectors for at least the next quarter, with a rebound once the epidemic is contained.
In terms of production process, the haber- bosch process segment accounted for the largest share of the South America catalyst fertilizers market in 2019. Based on metal group, base metal accounted for the largest share in catalyst fertilizers market. Further, the nitrogenous segment held a larger share of the market based on application in 2019.
