Report : Africa Intelligent Pipeline Pigging Market to 2027 - Country Analysis and Forecasts by Technology (Ultrasonic Pigging, and Magnetic Flux Pigging); Application (Metal Loss/Corrosion, Geometry & Bend Detection, Crack & Leak Detection, and Others); End-users (Chemical, Oil, Gas, and Others)

The Africa intelligent pipeline pigging market was worth US$ 12.79 million in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ 25.13 million by 2027; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.1% during the forecast period.

There has been tremendous rise in the implementation of pipeline systems in developed countries. Countries in the African region with huge reserves of crude oil for the transportation of natural gas, crude oil, and petroleum products are also experiencing the increase in this the implementation of these systems. Pipelines are vital to the world economy, and thus, the integrity of these systems is an extremely critical to secure system availability as well as operational safety. Specially designed intelligent pigs help in predictive prevention of damages to the pipes, and thus prevent unnecessary and unwanted delays or operation shutdown scenarios.

Pigging has been used for more than a century for dewatering, cleaning, and batching purposes. The conventional methods were quite time consuming, costly, and inefficient, where operators did know the exact location of the defect and rather had to run the pig across the entire length of the pipeline, halting its regular operations, which results in significant losses to them. Intelligent pigging is a nondestructive method of collecting data about defects in the pipeline. The device locates the exact location of the fault and the extent of the defect in it, without seizing the normal operations. As they travel along the pipeline, intelligent pigs can undertake advanced inspection activities, along with cleaning it. The techniques used for nondestructive examination by smart pigs include magnetic flux leakage testing and ultrasonic testing; these techniques help inspect pitting, metal loss, weld anomalies, erosion corrosion, and hydrogen-induced cracking, among others. They are also able to gather data on the pipeline's bends, curvature, diameter, and temperature. Smart pigs enable the inspection of an entire pipeline without any human intervention to go down its entire length. Thus, the demand for smart pigs is increasing, as they provide more efficiency in terms of inspection as well as cleaning.
